Hi Richard,
There are a lot of different pressure cookers out there but the general rule of thumb (that works for me) is 1 whistle + 1 minute. So once your PC gets to pressure, 3 miniutes after that is 1 whistle.
I would say, give this a try and see how it works for you, all pressure cookers are a bit different.

When the pressure is sufficient the disk jiggles around and hisses. Is that the same with your cooker?
