Sambharam is a refreshing yogurt drink popular in South India. It is very similar to it’s North-Indian counterpart as far as the ingredients are concerned but they are very different in consistency and flavors, The Ginger in the Sambaram is cooling as is the light buttermilk – perfect for the summer heat. With soaring temperatures, this light and flavorful concoction is the perfect beverage to cool the body and soul.
Serves – 2
Ingredients:
Yogurt – 3/4 cup
Water – 1 1/4 cup
Ginger Pieces – to taste
Green Chilies – to taste
Lemon Grass or Lime/Lemon Leaves – few pieces
Asafoetida – pinch
Salt – to taste
Curry Leaves – few
Method:
1. Blend Water and Yogurt to make a smooth liquid.
2. Roughly pound or crush Green Chilies, Ginger and Lemon Grass with a mortal and pestal and add it to the yogurt mixture.
3. Add Asafoetida, Salt and roughly torn Curry Leaves.
4. Mix well and serve over ice.
