  2. Hi Hetal and Anuja, Let me begin by congratulating you for your great blog. You guys are the best!!
    I was recently introduced to the idea of once a month cooking, but could not find any material on it from Indian cooking perspective. Can you tell us, what you think about it?

    1. Hi Sandip,

      hmmm…we have heard of once a week cooking but not once a month. Many Indian curries freeze well, so I am guessing that would work. You would just make a big batch and freeze them in smaller containers so you are not thawing, reheating the whole batch everytime. Be sure to label everything with the contents and the date.

  3. This tip was very useful to us on Ganesh Chathurthi day for making modak! We needed fine sooji, ended up using the coarse one and it didn’t work. At last I remembered your tip and modak came out very well! Thanks

    tried out the methi malai mattar and the egg curry…both were great….
    I need a tip from you as to how to store red potatoes…how ever i store them they get spoilt and produce such a foul odour…

    1. Hi Asha,

      That happens to me when I store potatoes in a closed bag. Keep them in the open out from the bag once you get them from the store. They stay much longer that way.

  9. Excellent tip! So is this all they do before selling in the shop? Just same source, one ground coarsely and the other one finely? Do they do any extra processing for the fine sooji at the shop?
    I hardly find fine sooji at our place and felt that I always missed it during festivals. If powdering coarse sooji works the same, then great!

  14. When I noticed it was the 24th, I frantically logged into the Food Network site to see if “we” had indeed won, but instead saw John’s name listed (who was pretty good as well). Considering your excellent presentation, I’m sure you all landed at least a second or third place. Congrats on stepping out there and bring South Asia cooking into the spotlight. I’m sure the SMTC community will be expanding from all of the recent attention. Thanks for allowing me to take part!
