Ingredients:
Puff Pastry Sheets – 1 pkg (1 pkg has 2 sheets)
For the filling:
Paneer – 7 oz, crumbled
Oil – 1 tbsp
Turmeric (Haldi) Powder – 1/4 tsp
Red Chili Powder – 1/4 tsp
Cumin (Jeera) Powder – 1/4 tsp
Chat Masala – 1/2 tsp
Amchoor (Dry Mango Powder) – 1/4 tsp
Salt – to taste
Cilantro – to taste, chopped
Method:
1. Pull out a package of Puff Pastry Sheets to defrost on the counter for 40 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, work on the filling. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
3. Crumble the Paneer in a bowl by hand or using a food-processor (pulse button).
4. Add in the dry spices – Turmeric, Red Chili Powder, Cumin Powder, Chat Masala, Dry Mango Powder & Salt.
5. Mix well and add the chopped Cilantro and mix again.
6. Heat Oil in a skillet.
7. Heat the Paneer in the skillet for about a minute or so.
8. Take off the flame and transfer into another bowl so it cools down faster and is easy to handle.
9. Meanwhile, dust a flat surface with some All-Purpose Flour and open the sheet of Puff Pastry on it.
10. Dust a little more Flour on top of the Sheet and roll out the sheet a little.
11. Divide the filling and spread them on the 2 sheets.
12. Roll the sheet gently into a roll as tightly as possible while being gentle.
13. Once you reach the edge, dab a little water and gentle but firmly press the edge in.
14. Roll the roll over and gently pinch the edges together.
15. With a sharp knife, cut rounds and place them on a greased tray.
16. Place them in the oven for about 15 minutes and pull them out once you see them turning brown.
17. Once out of the oven, allow them to cool for about 5 minutes before transferring them.
18. Enjoy warm.
Hi,
I just loved this recipe. But, Just wanted to check why do we have to roll it and then cut into pieces? Can’t it just be made as a puff? OR Is it just to match the appetizer’s name and give a nice look?
SP
I made this today with crumbled paneer and sliced artichokes. I added a paste of corainder leaves+green chillies+ginger mixed it all well and baked it the way you suggested. Turned out yummy 🙂
Hi Meenakshi,
Wow! That sounds like an incredible combination…I love artichokes! We’ll have to try it next time. Thanks for sharing your feedback.
I made these pin wheels… had paneer at home so just bought pastry sheets… no one who had in my frens believed that i have made them for the first time… they came out very well and we all just loved them 🙂

Awesome recipes. Some how my pinwheels didn’t came that well, got burnt from bottom while top was still baking. Any suggestions?
Hi Aish,
hmmm…maybe the oven rack was too close to the bottom element? Maybe you can try to move it up a few notches next time.

can i bake them on d grii?
here in india we dont get puf pastry sheet ….is there any substitute for it????????????
i googled for “pastry puff alternative” and saw the first recipe by Martha Stewart. Quick Puff Pastry. Try it.
Would it make the slicing any easier if you put the roll in the fridge for a little prior to cutting it? Has anyone tried this?
Hi Hetal & Anuja,
i made it with tofu,capsicum n onion…it came out very good….vry yummy…
HI Hetal and Anuja,
This website is awesome, thanks for all your videos. Is there ant specific brand of puff pastry sheets that you recommend ?/ the closest grocery store to me is walmart and i could not find anything labelled puff pastry sheets. Is it known by a different name?
How many pinwheels does this recipe make?
Hi
hi
can I put Paneer Pinwheels a freezer for 1 month before beak?
let me know about it.
thanks.
Hi Kavita,
You can cut them and freeze them. When you want to bake them, pull them out and defrost them just a bit so they soften (but not super soft) and pop them in the freezer.
Enjoy 🙂
Hi! I was just wondering, we are snowed in, and I don’t have any amchoor powder… can it be made without that? and will it still taste alright? or can the amchoor be subsituted for something else!?
Thanks! You ladies are WONDERFUL cooks!! 🙂
Keep up the great work!
hi! m from India.Puff pastry sheets r not easily available in my place.can utell me how to make at home
This is such a good looking, pretty recipe. Looks good for guests!!
Hi,
Can you please tell me how I can do this using the chicken kheema.
Thanks
Shaila
Hi Shaila,
If you chicken kheema is already prepared, the method is the same. Just spread the kheema instead of the paneer and roll.
thank you so much Hetal
i made these for Xmas dinner and they came out fine. everyone liked them but they did not puff up a lot. i was expecting them to get bigger after baking them but they barely did..maybe 20% more.. they got crusty which was nice.. do you know why this might happen.
thanks, Anu
Hi Anu,
Puff pastry is a little temperamental. If it thaws too much, it rises less. You have to follow the package directions exactly for the proper texture.
I made this for my daughters 5th birthday party on 5th of December for 40 people…I am a guy and this receipe was awsome.. it was easy and every single Indians at the party loved and were asking about how I made it and how delicious it was..thanks for creating Indian appetizer that is different then the usuall Indian appetizer at parties…creativity at work…
Hi Hetal and Anuja,
Just love your recipes. Have tried many of them and they come out great. Please add brownies and Paneer bhurji also to your list of upcoming dishes.
You ladies are awesome. Will try this. Thanks for the recipes!!!
hi..
just wanted to share a tip..i did try this recipe and wrapped the roll in a cling film and kept in the refrigerator for around 6 hrs before the party and then baked it before the party and they turned out very well….thanks for this recipe as this was a big hit ..
Hi Garima,
Thanks for sharing your tip…we’re sure it will help other viewers.
Hi Hetal & Anuja,
Do u have any suggestion to make if this recipe is just for 2 ppl, becoz from one sheet we get to make 12 pinwheels which is large number for just 2 ppl.
Hi Aish,
Once you defrost the puff pastry, you basically have to use it up. Just use 1/2 the sheet for the pinwheels and the other 1/2, cut into strips and bake. They will be like khari biscuits. Else, make the whole sheet and keep the leftover in the fridge. They heat up really well in the toaster oven.
thank u .
hi Hetal & Anuja
can you show the recipes of “how to make Khari Biscuits out of Pastry puffs sheets i got.
thanks
Hi Sweete,
My mom used to make those a long time back. I don’t think she did anything special but just cut the sheets into small rectangles and bake them according to package directions. If you like, you can sprinkle a little cumin powder before baking.
hi hetal and anuja,
why u r not uploading new recipe? we r waiting urs recipe.
Hi Anuja ans Hetal:
Before slicing the pinwheels, put the rolls in the freezer for a few minutes. The roll is easier to handle, and it slices more easily…..
Thanks for the tip Sandhya!

Vani,
Yes, you can grate the paneer…basically just break it up.
Hi Guys,
Can this be frozen? If yes, at which stage?
Thx
Hi Ranjani,
We do not suggest freezing the pinwheels.
Wow ! Thats just in time !! I had planned to make Paneer Puffs using the puff pastry sheets and similar filling for a party. But a little twist in the presentation will make a big difference I guess. Will make these instead !
Can we use Pillsbury Crescent Rolls instead of pastry sheet?
thanks,
You can use the crescent rolls but the texture of those are bread like…not flaky.
I am a great fan of your show, always watch what’s new… for that reason i would like to say pl. work on your video…it’s stops every second….not only it is time consuming but it is very much annoying too….and its not like i have dial up connection..i have high defination…you might loose lots of viewers for this cause…don’t take me wrong.
Sorry you are having trouble watching our video however it is working fine on our side. Maybe you could let it buffer completely before watching? 🙁
Yesterday, for the first time I had trouble viewing your video. It just would not play more than a couple of seconds at a time like the “Anonymous” posted. I waited till night and finally it played for me:)And I definitely do not have any computer probs. Not sure what went wrong.
Hi Angel,
Sorry you had trouble…not sure what was going on. 🙁
The same thing happened to me when I tried watching. I realized the default resolution for this video was 720p (a HD resolution). Once I changed it to 480p, it played just fine.
Hope that works for you!

from where we get puff pastry?
It is available (in the US) in most grocery stores. Look for it in the frozen desserts section.
u can get it from any supermarket fresh or frozen. if u want fresh check the dairy section such as butter, yorgut
Hi Hetal and Anuja
Loved this recipe … too gud …
looks beautiful, simple to make …..
wow !! Thanks ..
Will be making this soon .. probably with non-veg .. 🙂
Hi Hetal and Anuja
Thanks for the Fantastic Pinwheel Recipe. It is such a great Appetizer. I have one request if you could provide a Fruit Punch Recipe (Kids Friendly).
hi..is it possible to make all the preparations ahead of time and bake them later, I mean if there is a difference of around 4-5 hours do the puffs become soggy due to the mixture inside.
it is best to bake them right away,as it wont puff up
if left for a long time.u can reheat them in the oven later on but not in the microwave as it gets soggy!!
Hi Garima,
You should bake it right away but they can be reheated. The best way we found is to heat your oven to about 300 F and turn it off. Then place your pinwheels on a baking tray and just leave them in there for 5-10 minutes.
I made similar pin wheels with spinach, mushrooms, and gruyere cheese and they were a party favorites.
can u suggest if i want to make as sweet dish, which things are needed…?????? Please reply soon
We have not tried the sweet version but you could try finely chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts, etc) mixed with chocolate bits or cinnamon and sugar.
I think even coconut, jaggery and peanuts will be good.
Hi Mini,
That sounds yummy!
Hi
I know it’s a bit late to comment now.But just wanted to share an idea with u guys.I made a few changes to the recipe. I made it like a dessert. I cut the sheets into square shape.then added nutella to this along with a mix of nuts( pista, badam, cashews ) a few golden raisins , bake them & viola u have sweet dish ready!

Jayashree 🙂
Hi Jayashree,
Nutella! YUM! Thanks for sharing the idea – I am sure it will be very helpful to the viewers 🙂
gr888888888888 receipe…i’ll make it today..
Can we use mashed potatoes instead of paneer?
Yes, you can use a spiced mashed potato mixture but it may be a little harder to spread on the puff pastry.
Hi there! Nice recipe! My mum used to make these with spicy mashed potato, and whole meal atta, deep fried and she called it bhakarwadi! Yummy!
Hi Yasha,
Yes, bhakarwadi is yummy! This recipe is very different in taste and texture.
hi hetal & anuja
can we use tofu instead of paneer? looks so good cant wait to make this delicious pinwheels.
Yes, you can use any dry stuffings for the pinwheels.
Hi,
I saw the making process and decided to make this for a potluck. I think, for a guy, recipes such as this one is just amazing. I will post it again on how I did. I am planning on making Paneer and Egg pinwheels. Wish me luck. 🙂
Thank you so much once again for such great recipe video
-Chirag.
Hi Chirag,
Awesome! Good luck and let us know how they turn out.
Hola Hetal,
I really appreciate your reply. I made 2 kinds of pinwheels as I mentioned in my earlier post. Out of those two, most of my buddies liked egg pinwheels due to spicy taste to it. Somehow paneer pinwheels required some more spices to be added. I personally liked both of those since both of those kinds were different in taste. I have taken pics and wouldnt mind sending it to ya or attach it on facebook upon your permission 🙂
Thank you once again for such delicious creations.
-Chirag.
Hi Pratiksha,
We have not tried tofu but if you do, get the extra firm variety so that it crumbles well.
I would also add – make sure the tofu is pressed to release any remaining moisture.
I have used frozen and defrosted tofu, and fresh pressed tofu for this recipe and it turns out very well 🙂
