  1. Hello Hetal & Anuja,
I would like to know if i m using pinto beans homemade & not the can ones, is it ok to store it in freezer after boiling & smashing it & can use it whenever it need? If yes than how long it will stay in freezer? Thank you. I like your all recipes!!

    1. Hi Zalak,

Yes, you can freeze the mashed beans. They will remain fresh for up to 4 months if you pack them properly in freezer type containers.

  2. Hi Hetal & Anuja,

In the video you have mentioned about lard in the beans; my questions is, that if they are made with lard, it shall me mentioned on the can right? I mean, I have bought this can of refried beans to try mexican lasagna and therz no mention of lard in the ingredients. So is this what I should be buying?

    1. Hi Shweta,

Yes, if lard is used, it will be written in the ingredients. Sometimes, the can will have “Fat Free” or “Vegetarian” written on it.

  3. Ever since I discovered this recipe, I have been only following this one…This is a great and an extremely simple recipe…Thanks guys!

  4. Hi,
can i make refried beans with pinto beans…starting from scratch. whats the procedure and where can i get pinto beans. i m from irving, dallas.

    1. HI Sujana,

Taco seasoning is a spice blend with chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, cumin powder, salt, onion powder. These are the main ingredients but it may have some other flavors as well.

  5. Hi Hetal & Anuja,

I see in this recipe in a quick glimpse that you use taco seasoning- the one without MSG. I was wondering where you got that one. I checked them in few stores & couldn’t find without it.

I use your recipe for refried beans and it comes out delicious. Thanks for sharing all the recipes and helping us appear like good cooks 😉

    Regards,
    Swetha

    1. Hi Swetha,

You are not “appearing” to be a good cook….you are! We got our taco seasoning from Costco (we use a lot so we have to buy in bulk 🙂 ). The brand is Tone’s.

  6. Dear Anuja and Hetal,

I am an 18 years old student from Singapore and am a loyal follower of your cooking cult. I’ve tried 98% of your recipes and swear to God not even once disappointed (your recipes has restored my mama’s faith in my cooking).

I had sworn myself never to eat refried beans because it isn’t visually appetizing – it literally looks like (sorry XD) crap.

But being a loyal viewer that I am, I tried to make it yesterday and was so very pleasantly surprised when I tasted the dish – it was ridiculously delicious! I literally finished half of what I made (and ran 5 miles today out of guilt). I shall start eating refried beans from now on till the day I die.

Anyway, I’d like to thank both of you for making these easy and delicious recipes accessible to everyone, especially a student such as I.

    Sincerely,
    Blahnik

  7. hi hetal and anuja,
i was about to try tacos and got canned beans for making this refried beans recipe..but i got the canned vegetarian beans(in tomato sauce)…is this the same as refried beans???

    1. Hi KR,

No, the beans you got are not the right ones. Refried beans are just cooked and crushed pinto beans (with added salt and other spices)…no tomato sauce.

      1. Hi Hetal,

thank you for the reply… i guess i will have to return the can then 🙁
i’ll try to locate refried ones.. i could not find it the last time…

        thanks again!!

  8. Hi Hetal and Anuja, you both doing wonderful job of posting such great and dilicious recipies online. I am very big fan of yours. I like all the receipies. I am one request that if you can introduce vegetable burritos ( Authentic Mexican Cousin) style. It will be fantastic. I hope all the fans of Show me the Curry will love it. Thanks again, I have learned a lot from you.

  9. Hi Hetal & Anuja,

Great receipe, how long can this be stored? Was thinking good if we can make a batch of it and store for a long time.

Apart from it, would be great if you can include some tips on correcting salt or sugar in veggies/dals, somehow my measurement always goes wrong especially when I am having some guests! I have known people using mashed potatoes, or all purpose flour but would be good if you can include some “Correcting” tips on Tips Tuesday..

    Thank You
    Namrata

    1. Hi Namrata,

They keep in the fridge for about a week. They also freeze very well. Just defrost and reheat again when you’re ready to use.

      1. of course , u get veg sushi! i eat it here in new zealand. but i dont think it is very easy to make it at home, i checked few recipes on youtube, looks liek too much work!

  10. I usually make many recipes from your website. But the salsa and refries bean recipes really helpful.

I would request you to make more Mexican recipes like enchiladas, burrito, or the rice. I tried to make enchilada once but did not turn out very good.

So looking forward to more Mexican recipes.
    Prerna

  11. Another recommendation is to replace green chillies with pickled jalapenos. This will provide the heat and this will replace the lime juice also.

I hope your next recipe is for Spanish or Mexican Rice. I would love to see your version.

    Thanks.

  12. Just LOVED your recipes for the refried beans and the salsa….. The refried beans recipe is MUCH better than the one I have been making for years… The salsa recipe is very timely for me since Costco has discontinued the mango salsa I have been buying for my breakfast every morning…. Now I can make my own & of course, I will add mango to your salsa recipe – it tastes really good with mangoes (Costco also added peaches to it)…..

      1. Hi Hetal, Well, I found it at another Costco, so am happy for now & am hoping that info reg their discontinuing it is false. Take care, Alki
