Mumbai is known for a lot of the things and the top two would be Street Foods and Bollywood! In a recent trip to the beautiful city, I tried so many great street foods. Here is a look at the famous Sandwich at Anand Stall, outside Mithibai College. This Grilled Vegetarian Sandwich was loaded with vegetables, brimming with flavors and the street-side ambiance just added to the experience. We skipped the Onions and the Bell Peppers and what we ordered was just half a sandwich for just about Rs.35! How could we go wrong with that? So simple, delicious and so easy to make at home.

Nice article! Thanks for sharing informative post Keep posting
Hello:
I was home alone this afternoon and got hungry quick. Dear wife and kids were out. I got out the bread, one lonelly boiled potato, a fresh onion, a tomato, cheese, ketchup.. OMG I had everything I’d every need. I sliced and layered it ALL on 2+2 slices of bread. Of course I spend 10 minutes looking for the sandwich maker grill. but Volia… when it call came together…crisp, sizzling with flavors and melting cheese. and NOT a single drop of oil. Thank you very much. BURPPPPPPPP!!
Hi Vishal,
Ha ha ha…you description makes me want to hunt for my sandwich maker grill 🙂
Thanks for sharing! Love Mumbai, Mumbai street food and your website with all the delicious recipes. I make chutney sandwiches all the time with pepper jack cheese 🙂
Anuja, thank you for posting this! Brings back so many wonderful memories of my time in Bombay. I ate this sandwich on a regular basis. Now I’m going to try my own version at home. Can’t tell you how much I loved this video! Thanks again!
Hi Sonia,
Awesome! Nothing like wonderful memories from childhood 🙂
Hi, this was a hit in my house. Here is what I did unsalted butter melted, cheddar cheese and dash of Parmesan cheese , mint chutney as on the website and chat masala. I added just boiled potatoes and tomatoes. This is awesome recipe. thanks for sharing Anuja.
QUESTION
Hi
Thank you for this video. Can you please tell me what kind of cheese can we use in the US for this sandwitch ?
I am from bombay and I miss this sandwitch ):):
pls reply
thanks
Sheetal
I have the same question!! What american cheese can be used instead of amul cheese??
I would try Monterey Jack or Mozzarella (not the fancy fresh Mozzarella but the kind that you have to grate). You may want to try a combination of Jack and Mozzarella. Hope this helps.
We think ANY cheese as long as it kinda melts will be great!
hi
i tried this sandwich at home and was instant hit, my daughter who is not vegetarian loved it and ask me to make it every week end. It was very surprising for her that the guy making the sandwich wasn’t wearing any gloves. Thanks for sharing this video.

great fan of yours. growing up in islamabad used to love eating cucumber sandwiches. definitely will try to make this version.
Thanks, Anuja. You and Hetal have a flair for keeping ‘show me the curry’ as alive as when it was in your together days. Great entrepreneurship!
May I please request a written version of the street food recipes so that I can have print-outs for filing and easy future reference?

Thanks for the video
Good one!
Nice to see Anuja in my dear city Mumbai enjoying street food , Mumbai meri jaan it Wudt be wrong to call it the city of joy….
video is not coming
hi Anuja,
I envy you… I havn’t eaten on the roads of Mumbai in the last 24 years.. But yes, will def try the sandwich… thx.
I love that the bread is triangular! I wish I could see the molds they are baked in. Guessing they are like pain de mie/Pullman loaf pans with a sliding lid.
I must try chat masala on grilled cheese now!
Hi Robin,
They were not very forthcoming about the triangle bread – either they did not know or they did not want to share…but, yes, my guess is the same as yours. The pan has to have a lid, else it would be puffed (from 1 side)…all guesses…
Hi guys. I am originally from Himachal Pradesh in India. The big bread was specially made for sandwiches because it holds the filling well. I think ‘Bambaia’s triangula’ bread is baked on the same principle
Anuja, I think it’s the immunity that is responsible for our digestion. Wish we all have that strong immune system to enjoy our authentic street food.
If you get pani puri with seven different water do not miss it, it’s yuuuuuummmm.
Hope Hetal visits you soon and you make a new episode adding spice to our lives from ‘home’ soon.
Regards
Vandana
Great to see you in Mumbai enjoying street food, Anuja.
You look so happy and contented. Miss seeing you with Hetal!
Enjoy all your demonstrations together. Keep it up please.
Wishing you and the family all the best.
Greetings from Berlin!
Helena
Thanks Helena, I miss Hetal as well 🙁 but, we are trying to make the best of the situation and we think we aren’t doing too bad 😉
Thank you for your wishes 🙂
Could you please do a spell check on the word “collage”? Loved the sandwich!
Done, thanks Sandhya 🙂
What kind of cheese is that?
They claimed it was Amul (brand) Cheese that we get in India.
so yummy

Hi Khyati,
Yes, it was a Chinese szechuan sandwich 🙂
OMG Anuja di..My mouth is watering now. 🙁 Lucky you. Enjoy..
Very cool video and Anuja you are very brave for eating street food. Yes, it’s usually more delicious but Westerners get sick from street food.
I am an American who has eaten street food around the world for the last fifty years. To my knowledge it has never caused me any problem.
Hi Pinal,
I eat – as long as it is very very blatantly obvious that I should not…I eat 🙂
OMG!!! its mouth watering lol!! Nice to see you Anuja, you look so happy 🙂 I am so happy for you.
