Broccoli Quiche

Broccoli Quiche is packed with a lot of goodness, all the way from calcium to protein to fiber. Unlike a lot of stuff that’s good for you, this Broccoli Quiche recipe tastes great as well. Great for brunches or lunches or just a quick snack, do not underestimate this wonderful low carb dish.

Prep Time: 15 min
Cook Time: 60 min
Serves: 4 – 6
Ingredients:

Broccoli – 10 to 12 oz, chopped
Oil – 2 tsp
Eggs – 8 large (2 cups)
Shredded Cheese – 1/2 cup (cheddar or jack)
Green Chilies – to taste, finely chopped
Cottage Cheese – 1/2 cup
Salt – to taste
Black Pepper – 1/4 tsp
Green Onions – 1 stalk, chopped

Method:

1. Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees F(approx 180 degrees C)
2. In a medium size pan, add in the Oil and heat on medium heat.
3. Once hot, add in the Onions and allow them to get translucent.
4. Meanwhile, lightly coat a 9″ pie dish with some cooking oil.
5. Once the Onions are done, add in the Green Chilies, Spring Onions and Broccoli.
6. Cook for about 3 minutes, till the Broccoli is about half the way cooked.
7. Transfer to the pie dish.
8. Break the Eggs in a mixing bowl and add in Salt and Pepper to taste.
9. Add in the Shredded and Cottage Cheese and mix well.
10. Pour this mixture in the pie dish over the Broccoli.
11. Bake for 45-50 minutes.
12. The best way to tell is to see if the edges have left the side and the top is golden.
13. Once out of the oven, allow it to rest for about 5-7 minutes and then slice and serve.

Tips:

1. Add in other vegetables like Cauliflower, carrots, Spinach etc for a change.
2. Drip a little bit of egg mixture on a hot pan and allow it to cook, then taste to check salt and pepper.
3. Serve with Ketchup, Chutney, Salsa or Tabasco.

  1. Hi Hetal and Anuja,
Is it possible to substitute half or all the amount of whole eggs with egg whites? I usually substitute 2 egg whites for a whole egg in omelets and scrambled egg recipes to cut down on the cholesterol, but didn’t know if I could do the same with quiche. Thanks!

    1. Hi Malavika,

We have not tried it with egg whites, but it should work. Basically, the eggs are the binding force in quiche and even egg whites do the trick. I would probably not eliminate all of the yolks the first time you try it.

  2. hey guys can I use cream cheese and some other Shredded Cheese instead of cottage cheese. For two people how many eggs do u suggest.

    Thanks

    1. Hi Rizna,
You can omit the cottage cheese and use any cheese you like. The cottage cheese is there to make it lighter. You can make half the amount shown for 2 people.

  3. Hi,

Is this recipe to be made only in oven? The oven in our apartment does not work at all. Is there any other method to cook this dish? I am quite eager to try it out. Help please!!!

    Thanks for a yummy dish.

  4. I made broccoli quiche for brunch over the weekend and it was a hit! As a typical desi, I added a little crushed red pepper for spice and it was delicious! thanks for your recipes!

  8. Hi Hetal and Anuja,

This recipe looks great. Can we use muffin pan to make smaller individual quiches instead of a large single one. What should be the temperature setting of the oven and for how long?

    Thanks.

    1. The quiche in the muffin pans would look sooo cute! Great idea!
We suggest that you keep the same temperature but reduce the amout of time to about 30-35 min. Allow the eggs to settle and firm up before you pop them out (very very important)!
Send us a picture when you make them.
      Enjoy!

    1. Yes, zucchini sounds wonderful! we would suggest that you don’t cook it a whole lot because it will fall apart and become soggy. Add it into the pan in the last 2-3 minutes of cooking the broccoli.
      Enjoy!

  9. Hi Hetal and Anuja
