could u tell me the diff kinds of ravas used for dishes like idly ,rava dosa, sooji halwa and rava ladoo and upma ? if its wheat rava (sooji ) or rice rava ( cream of rice )…i saw your idly recipe with urad and learnt you used cream of rice…where as in the instant idly recipe you used just rava ( not sure what kinda rava )why the diff ? could u please specify …the rava i have is coarse more granular and brown …is that wheat or rice rava ? could u elaborate on the rava used
Hi Tripti,
Rava Idli (Instant Idli) is made from sooji (semolina) and is a wheat product. Sooji comes in a fine and coarse variety, as well as a toasted variety. We used the coarse one for the rava idli.
Idli Rava (though the name is similar) is parboiled rice that has been coarsely ground and used to make traditional idli. If the one you have is more granular and brownish, I think you must have toasted sooji — used to make upma.
